Craftsmanship + Materials

Materials, Process & Making

Material and design are closely connected. A design may determine the choice of material, or the qualities of a particular material may shape the design itself.

Quality, construction and intended use inform both.

MATERIALS

No single material suits every purpose.

Silk, linen, cotton and other natural fibers are selected for their individual properties, from drape and structure to texture, breathability and wear.

Recycled, performance and manufactured materials are used when their properties are better suited to the product.

A particular weight, weave, texture or drape can establish the direction of a design from the outset.

TEXTILES & PRINT

Print is central to our collections.

Scale, color and placement are developed for the finished application. A pattern behaves differently across apparel, fabric, cushions and wallcoverings, and is adapted accordingly.

Printing methods vary by material, design and intended use.

MAKING

Our collections bring together specialist manufacturing, textile printing, hand finishing and small-scale production.

Construction, finish and technique vary by product. Relevant details are included on individual product pages.

NATURAL VARIATION

Natural materials and some methods of production carry inherent variation.

Differences in color, texture, weave, grain, print placement and finish may occur between pieces. These are characteristics of the material or process rather than defects.

CARE & LONGEVITY

Care requirements are specific to the material and construction of each product.

Following the recommended care helps preserve its appearance, performance and useful life. Product-specific instructions are included with the relevant product information.

MATERIAL INFORMATION

Individual product pages provide relevant information on material, construction, care and manufacture.

Technical specifications for textiles, wallcoverings and other products that require them are included with the product details.
